Moving Tips

When you move with Coastal Van Lines, you can rely on a team of professionals who work together to make sure your move goes smoothly.

Your Representative

Your Coastal Van Lines representative meets with you before the move to handle all the details:

  • determining your moving needs
  • explaining all of your relocation options
  • helping you choose the services you need, from packing to transport and storage
  • preparing an estimate
  • scheduling your preferred pickup and delivery dates
  • coordinating your packing dates with the moving vehicle and crew
  • arranging for packing (if you choose the packing option)
  • detailing unloading and placement instructions
  • clarifying unpacking instructions (if you choose the full unpacking service option)
  • providing helpful advice
  • answering all your questions
  • keeping your move stress-free and on-schedule
Your Driver

Your driver takes command and accepts full responsibility for your move. He knows how to handle your possessions safely, how to load them securely, and how to supervise the crew who helps him serve you. Our drivers operate over-the-road equipment that utilizes full air-ride suspension for a safe, smooth move for your valuable possessions.

Your Packing Team

Good packing is vital for protecting your possessions during your move. Transporting fragile, delicate items safely involves a lot more than simply stuffing them in boxes. For peace of mind, choose expert packing from Coastal Van Lines. We know how to do it right: use the right carton for every item, choose the right packing materials to cushion and protect the contents, pack professionally to assure your items a safe trip.

Chinaware, crystal & silver Individually wrapped and packed using proven techniques - including plates standing on end and stemware in individual, corrugated cylinders. Everything's snug and safe inside.
Lamps We handle lampshades only by their wire framing, place them in tissue-lined cartons for added cushioning, and seal the cartons. Ceramic lamps require careful packing or, sometimes, crating.
Entertainment electronics If you have the original packing materials, you may want to pack your equipment yourself. If not, we can provide suitable packaging materials and pack your equipment safely.
Home office equipment We treat home-office equipment (PCs, monitors, printers, answering machines, fax machines and such) like your business depends on it.
Clothing & draperies Dustproof, reinforced wardrobe cartons keep clothing and draperies neat and clean, so they're ready to use right away when you arrive at your new home.
Mirrors & glass-front pictures Reinforced, telescoping cartons offer maximum protection for mirrors and glass.
Antiques & special items Custom-built wooden crates and protective packing safeguard antique tables, marble tabletops, pool table slates, crystal chandeliers, fragile vases and other priceless possessions.
Items we can't move We can't accept aerosols because they might leak, or even explode, in transit. Other non-shippable items include caustic drain cleaners and flammables such as gasoline, charcoal starter, paint thinner and bottled gas.
Your Item Inventory

A member of your moving team catalogs each carton and separate item on an inventory form, describing each piece of furniture. Upon delivery, the Customer Check-Off Sheet will help you verify that all items on your inventory were received. You can then be sure that all of your possessions arrive safe and sound.

Doing Your Own Packing

When you trust your packing to Coastal Van Lines, you save time you probably can't spare, save worry you most likely don't need, and save costs you didn't expect.

However, if you decide to pack some or all of your items yourself, we recommend the same materials that our professionals use:

  • double- and triple-cell constructed cartons
  • cushioning wraps
  • packing tape

All are readily available at affordable prices. Ask us for the supplies you need.

We can also offer you step by step instructions for doing your own packing.

It's like solving a giant jigsaw puzzle in three dimensions. Your Coastal Van Lines driver has the practical experience to load your possessions safely and efficiently.

Your car can travel in the same van with your household furnishings. This is a good option for a second car, allowing your family to drive together to your new home, without the strain of driving separate cars.

On the Road

We use advanced satellite and information systems to monitor the movement of your possessions on the road.

Storage in Transit

If your new home isn't ready, or you need some travel time to get there, you may store your shipment in a safe and secure warehouse at an additional charge until you are ready to receive them.

When shipments are delivered to a warehouse for storage in transit (SIT), your goods are placed in secure storage containers to protect them from loss or damage. Household items stay packed in their original moving cartons. Upholstered furniture is stored on specially designed racks and protected from dust and dirt with stretch wrap. Cars, boats, trailers, motorcycles and other vehicles are sheltered inside the warehouse.

Unloading the Van

Your crew places your furniture where you want it in your new home. They'll carry cartons to the kitchen, bedrooms, basement and garage as marked. They'll unroll rugs, reassemble beds, and put them where you say.

Unpacking

If you choose the full unpacking service option, your crew will unpack every plate, cup, glass and spoon; place them on the kitchen counter; and take away the packing material when they leave.

After the Move

When your move is completed, you may receive a questionnaire in the mail to help us monitor our quality of service, both in the field and in our office. We value your opinion and want to know if your moving experience met your expectations.

In the unlikely event that anything is lost or damaged in your move, we'll give you fast, fair claims service.
