A Little About The Owner and History of Coastal Van Lines Moving & Storage
For Larry Parks, president of Coastal Van Lines Moving & Storage, the moving business is more than a profession; it's a legacy. "My grandfather went into the business back in 1917, buying himself a truck with money he had saved from delivering ice," he smiles.
However, it was not his grandfather's company that drew Larry into the moving business. He grew up in Boca Raton and eventually became a finishing carpenter in the San Francisco Bay area when, in 1980 he returned to Florida where his parents lived. "My father was diagnosed with cancer and I wanted to be close by," he says.
Carpentry in Florida did not pay the kind of money that Parks earned out west, though, and he struggled. Then one day his Dad gave him some fatherly advice. "Buy yourself a truck and go into the moving business like your grandfather,' he told me."
Following that advice, Larry bought a 1964 step van, put a one-dollar ad in the newspaper and opened for business. "Since I was already familiar with the construction business, I started by moving kitchen cabinets to job sites," he recalls.
He didn't just deliver those cabinets; he unboxed and put them in place. "I enjoyed it because I missed doing carpentry work. My business grew rapidly after that from word-of-mouth alone,'' he remembers.
Larry Parks had learned the most important ingredient for success in the moving business - personalized service. "It's all about knowing what business you're in,' he says. "I soon learned that I wasn't in the moving business - I was in the business of transporting "peoples'most valued possessions."
In the early days, Larry operated from home, did all his pick-ups and deliveries during the day and his marketing and sales at night. "I decided I needed someone to handle sales during normal business hours. He then decided to enlarge the company by hiring a salesman.
The business quickly expanded to include an Office Manager, Dispatcher and Warehouseman. Since then Coastal Van Lines, Inc. has never looked back.
The next major step for Larry and his cpmpany came in 1987 when he became the local agent for Atlas Van Lines. Today, Coastal Van Lines is an agent for Arpin Van Lines and handles local, national and international business. Larry owns two warehouses and six trucks, including two tractor-trailer rigs.
While the business has grown considerably from those days with the step-van, Coastal Van Lines has never outgrown the unique brand of personalized attention that's responsible for Larry's success. 'That's the key to our quality service," he says. "I still drive many of our exclusive over-the-road clients myself. We recently moved a corporate executive from Florida to California with $2 million worth of furniture that included works of art and antiques. It took three vans, 16 people and 15 days to complete the job," he grins.
In 1995 Coastal Van Lines was awarded the Department Of Defense Contract for moving and storage of military personnel. The contract is still held today with the stringent requirements by the U.S, Government. Larry continues to work with clients he first moved back in the 1980s. "People know when you love your work," he says, "especially when your work involves their possessions. Personalized service is not just a slogan for us; it's the only way we know how to do business."
While many people perceive Coastal Van Lines as a large, national firm, the company's core business is still local moving and storage. "We handle moves as small as a favorite chair up to a house full of antiques. We move both residential and commercial clients,'' he says. "With two storage warehouses, Coastal Van Lines can store a customer's household goods and fully protect them in our air conditioned and climate controlled facilities for any length of time."
Larry encourages people to come visit his company's headquarters. "If you see our facilities and meet our staff, you'll understand why we are successful," he says.
The moving business is personal to Larry Parks. Getting into it was the best advice his late father gave him. He proudly displays a photo of his grandfather's truck from 1917 in the offices.
The family tradition continues with Larry's son Jake Parks who joined in 2014 and is now the Vice President and his daughter Jenna Parks who joined in 2019 working in the Marketing Department.

Thanks for the great service, pack and friendship. In the past 23 years of military service I move a lot. You and your Team have been the most professional and family oriented I’ve encountered. I appreciate the work you’ve done. I’d recommend you and your team to pack out any military member. You are truly worthy of the job/service, you bring credit to your profession. Like we discussed yesterday, “Your move is our reputation” is a GREAT motto. It’s the core value you truly believe. Thanks again.

I was very impressed by Jake of Coastal Van Lines. Not only was he very professional, but he went out of his way to make my move enjoyable and stress free. The quote he gave me was more than fair and very affordable. The movers he sent to my condo, packed up all my belongings very carefully and took very good care of them. They were right on time and even stayed later at the unloading point due to weather to ensure my things did not get damaged They even helped me to hang heavy items for no extra charge. They never even took a break. In this day and age it truly was a blessing to have them do such an outstanding job. I highly recommend this amazing, caring company!
Our move was the best move we’ve ever had- it was superb. I would rate Coastal as high as it can be rated. It was absolutely perfect.
Dear Mr. Parks,
I would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to you and your crew for moving our office, The Substance Awareness Council of IRC. Moving an office with all the heavy, cumbersome furniture can be quite challenging. You and your crew made the moving experience for me and all the other employees quite a pleasant experience. Your crew was extremely polite and very helpful with any problems we encountered. They smiled the entire day, even when we requested they move furniture they had already placed in one office into another. I’ve never seen this, your crew vacuumed each office when it was empty. This was a tremendous help! I have had experiences with other moving companies and I will say, by far, the experience with you and your company, Coastal Van Lines, Inc. was the best. I highly recommend Coastal Van Lines, Inc. to anyone who would like to take the pain and stress out of a moving day. Sincerely,
Assistant Director- The Substance Awareness Council of IRC
Service was better than expected. Your employees were efficient and a pleasant to work with.

I just wanted to let you know that the crew did excellent jobs picking up here in Vero, working with my friend in PC Beach, and unloading and unpacking large pictures back here in Vero. They were very professional and awesome with care and corcern for furniture, walls and putting furniture back together. When finished we did a walk through and I was asked if they could do anything else for me! Sincerely,
–Judy Malone, Vero Beach mover

We appreciate you so much! Thank you so much for connecting us with Larry! His team did an OUTSTANDING job with moving us out of our Virginia home! We were so impressed with their timeliness, expertise and care with which they moved our items. Larry moved mountains to help us meet our move out date timeline, too! You are an extraordinary person and clearly you also know extraordinary people.
We were so impressed with the entire experience moving into our new home! Working with Charlie and His son was an absolute delight! They handled our possessions with the same care that they would their own. What incredible integrity, excellence and dedication to detail too. OUTSTANDING!

Nancye and I wanted to express our appreciation of a top notch job that was done by Charlie and Charles. Both unloading and setting up our furniture, etc. in Sarasota, FL 34243.
We had the pleasure of having Charlie at our move in Port Saint Lucie, Fl 34952 and were very happy to see him once again. Both Charlie and Charles never stopped until the job was finished and were both very accommodating and courteous. We are even thinking of moving again just so we could use them.
These two gentlemen are great ambassadors for your company and we would appreciate that you let them know how we feel. Although we told them it is important for the boss to recognize the kudos when received from a client.
When I worked with companies in my consulting roles these are the type of employees that I use as examples.
Very Truly Yours,
Henry A. Bechard Jr.
